Seaford Town F.C. - The Floodlights

The floodlights finally arose and saw their first game played on the 18th September in the league match against Lancing. A bumper crowd of over 200 people saw Seaford win 3-2 (match report can be found here).

However, a game was organised on the 8th January 2008, between Seaford Town and Sussex County Cricket Club to mark the floodlights erection. Sussex CCC (who were county champions in 2003, 2006 and 2007) fielded a side containing their captain Chris Adams, England bowler James Kirtley, Robin Martin-Jenkins, Olly Rayner, Ben Brown, Ragheb Aga among others. Even former Seaford Town player Tom Smith played in the match, scoring from 30 yards out ! The final score was 8-3 to Seaford Town.

Erection of the lights was the committees main agenda during 2006-07.

It was a tall order as funds were low but thaks to some hard work from everyone concerned, several thousands were raised from such things as sponsored swims and hikes from Eastbourne to Seaford.

Alterations had to be made to planning as keeping the trees was a priority and the fund sponsor had to be re-applied for. The clubs lease had to be extended, and thanks to John Cook it was signed and sealed mid season.

Once these were confirmed it was all systems go. New quotations came and went until we came across Highlights who we contracted to do the work. EDF eventually delivered their quotation which meant works could and did start mid May 07 and were complete by the end of June 07.

Thanks to FROSTECHNIC a control panel was manufactured which saved the club around £2000 and also our thanks to SELECT ELECTRICAL SUPPLIES (Worthing) who supplied the club with the electrical distribution equipment saving around £200.

We are all very proud of our new lights and now we are working towards a new stand (donations gratefully received).
